Welcome to a retreat where you can experience the ancient art of storytelling. During this weekend in September Angela Halvorsen Bogo will guide you through the depths of this sacred practice of storytelling.
The Inuit definition of 'storyteller' is 'one who creates space in which wisdom reveals herself'. In a world that rushes past meaning, how can we learn this?
First, we need to slow down, listen and root ourselves in presence. Connected to the earth, to our own breathe and body, we can begin to deeply attend - to ourselves, to each other and to that which lies within everything.
This retreat is an experience of the ancient art and sacred practice of storytelling. In listening to stories, discussing how a story is told, we co create a storytelling ritual space. We will find discover how to best serve our communities and be a transformative presence.
When the current of grace starts to flow through us, we naturally speak with more truth, act with more compassion, and listen with greater reverence. In such a space, story becomes healing, silence becomes prayer, and community becomes a living ceremony.
During the retreat you will be introduced to three forms of storytelling —traditional tales, personal narrative, and sacred text — and explore how each can be used in service of healing, connection, and transformation.
You will see how relaxation, silence, playfulness, and meditation naturally expand our attention and bring sensitivity to our expression.
You will learn how to avoid cringe making, artificial ritual or forced storytelling and bring instead the real and authentic sacred space people need.
You will explore storytelling itself as a ceremonial and experience the ancient Scottish storytelling culture of 'ceilidh'. You'll uncover how stories can create thresholds, guide emotional journeys in courses, formal ceremonies, seasonal celebrations, rites of passage and everyday moments with family or friends. You’ll leave with practical tools, creative inspiration, and many stories.
During the retreat an embodied movement meditation will be offered each morning.
This is for you:
who want to listen more closely to the wisdom stories carry, when told in sacred space
interested in storytelling for communal transformation
leading circles, ceremonies, or creative workshops
who feel story calling them as a tool for healing and initiation
Angela Halvorsen Bogo is a storyteller, ritual artist, and facilitator of transformational spaces.
With over 35 years of experience weaving together oral tradition, spiritual practice, and improvisation, Angela brings rare depth and lightness to her work.
Angela draws from a well of folk tales, sacred play, contemplative practice, and embodied presence. She was apprenticed to Master Indigenous Storyteller, Duncan Williamson, in Scotland. She lived in a Celtic Monastery for six years, leading a nationwide storytelling project.
Then developed and teaches her own sacred healing journey through the archetype of the Fool. She works in healthcare as a therapeutic clown for people with dementia, is a coach for creatives and a writer. She is an advanced practitioner of Social Presencing Theatre for organisations. Her storytelling is an invitation, a threshold, to receive story as medicine. She creates spaces where story becomes ceremony, laughter opens the heart, and the ancient art of the storyteller is remembered as guidance, healing and the way to the in-between.
